A team of assessors from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG) will arrive on April 7, 2026, to examine all aspects of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, including policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services, Sheriff Dale Schmidt announced today.

This visit is part of the Sheriff’s Office’s reaccreditation process, following its initial accreditation in June 2023. Verification by the assessment team that the agency continues to meet WILEAG’s state-of-the-art standards is required to maintain accreditation — a highly regarded recognition of professional excellence in law enforcement.

As part of the on-site review, employees and community members are invited to provide comments. The public may call (920) 386-4090 on April 8, 2026, between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must relate to the agency’s ability to comply with WILEAG standards. A copy of those standards is available on the Sheriff’s Office website at:

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office must comply with 262 standards and 655 distinct dimensions to maintain accredited status.

“Our agency was first accredited in June 2023, and this assessment is a key step in our reaccreditation process,” Sheriff Schmidt said. “Accreditation is essential to the work we do because it reinforces our commitment to professionalism, accountability, and public trust. By meeting rigorous, nationally recognized standards, we ensure that our policies, training, and operations consistently protect the rights and safety of the people we serve. For our community, accreditation is a clear assurance that their sheriff’s office is dedicated to transparency, continuous improvement, and the highest level of service.”

Captain Boeck, the agency’s Accreditation Manager, noted that the assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar agencies. The assessors will review written materials, conduct interviews, and observe operations where compliance can be demonstrated. The assessment team members are Sergeant Eric Weisenberger (Team Leader); Sergeant Keith Rosciszewski; Captain Matthew Lewek; and Lieutenant Joseph Souther.

Once the assessors complete their review, they will report their findings to the full WILEAG Board, which will then decide whether the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office will be granted reaccredited status. Accreditation is valid for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports demonstrating continued compliance with all applicable standards.
