Dodge County Law Enforcement
Explorer Post #9903
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department and the
Dodge County area law enforcement agencies are currently accepting
applications for the Dodge County Law Enforcement Explorer
Post #9903. We are looking for qualified candidates from the ages of 14
to 20 years old to participate in the Explorer Post. These
candidates should be dedicated students in high school or college
and interested in the field of law enforcement or corrections.
Qualified candidates must submit an application, may be invited for
an interview and will be subject to a background investigation.
About the Explorer Post
Explorer Posts are chartered through Learning
for Life which is managed by the Boy Scouts of America. The
Explorer Post is a program which introduces young adults to the
field of law enforcement and to give them a better understanding of
this possible career choice. This program also fosters
responsibility in the members and gives them motivation to do well
in school as well as become active community members through
community service. The post provides a positive place for our young
adults to grow and socialize.
What Happens at Post Meetings
Our post meetings will be held on the second
and fourth Monday of every month from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The
meeting is overseen by advisors and will eventually be run mostly
by Explorers who will be selected into command staff positions in
the post.
The first part of the meeting handles everyday
business. Topics discussed in the business portion of the meeting
include finances, trainings and upcoming events.
The second portion of the meeting is training.
Training topics include professional communications,
ethics, traffic stops, firearms and many other aspects of law
enforcement and corrections. These are not held as academy
accredited courses but certified instructors are used as much as
possible. These trainings are then used to participate in local,
state and national competitions against other Explorer posts from
other law enforcement agencies. These skills also form a base for
the Explorer to build on once they start their career. A ride along
program is also a part of the Explorer post allowing Explorers to
ride along with officers while on patrol.
What the Explorer Post Can Do For Your Community
Community involvement is expected out of every
Explorer Post member. Possible involvement may include assisting at
county events such as parades, festivals or the county fair. The
post will constantly look for opportunities to get out into the
community and make it a better place to live. The post trainings
and activities give exposure to Explorers so that they understand
what a career in law enforcement or corrections would be like.
